Where classic meets now
On Vondelstraat in Amsterdam, just steps away from the Vondelkerk, this home called for a different kind of balance. Classic character meets a modern approach to interior design, without loosing our Format signature. The original details of the building were embraced, not erased, and reimagined for the way this family lives today.

The family of five wanted a true family home, one built around freedom, luxury, and everyday practicality. In the kitchen, that translates into soft grey veined stone that runs from the backsplash into the countertop, paired with off white cabinetry that echoes the home's classic mouldings. Herringbone oak flooring grounds the space, while boucle bar stools around the island soften the palette. A place for coffee before school runs, and for lingering long after dinner is done.
This project holds a special place for us. It was one of the first homes we designed when we started Format six years ago, and it still carries the same idea that has guided us ever since: honour what's already there, and build the rest to last.
