Co-founder Jikke talks about the new Format HQ & Atelier

While summer was in full swing, there's something exciting cooking behind the scenes at Format. We spoke with Co-founder Jikke about the move and renovation of the new Format headquarters and atelier, a space designed to offer a full experience and a deep dive into the world of Format.

"We're celebrating our fourth anniversary this September! Originally, our showroom was in Abcoude and our workshop in Breukelen, which was quite impractical. To foster better team spirit and collaboration, we’re excited to announce that we’re moving to a new location where the showroom, office, and atelier will all be under one roof. This move allows us to design, create, plan, and build everything in one place—whether it’s kitchens, bathrooms, or anything in between."

"When clients visit our new location, they can take a tour of the atelier and see where everything is designed and built. We have a huge sample room that immerses them fully in the Format experience. While Abcoude was just the beginning, showcasing only a fraction of what we could do, the new showroom is fully designed in the Format style. Visitors step right into the world of Format. On the ground floor, they can see a kitchen, a complete dining area, and a seating area. Soon, we will have a fully designed mini-loft on the upper floor, complete with a bathroom, kitchen, and a custom-built fireplace. It will truly showcase a home as envisioned by Format, using the highest quality materials and detailing. The new showroom offers a comprehensive view of our craftsmanship, allowing customers to see the entire process from start to finish."

"Our new space is in Bajeskwartier in Amsterdam, an exciting, up-and-coming neighborhood on the edge of new development. Our building, which previously housed a rowing shop, is the only one in the area that hasn’t been newly constructed. We stripped everything down, removing walls and installing a new mezzanine floor with a new steel structure. The original upper floor was not at the right height, so we replaced it entirely. True to Format’s style, we transformed the entire atelier into a futuristic white hub, a decision that many at first questioned, but it ultimately creates an immersive customer experience. Customers enter the showroom with a beautifully bush-hammered concrete floor and a wooden floor, then walk through to our atelier. The office space is entirely wooden, adding warmth to the building. Every detail, down to the baseboards, has been meticulously planned, including a well-thought-out lighting plan.”
